School Events - Year 6 visit St Chad's Cathedral

Our Year 6 Classes visited St Chad's Cathedral as part of their Confirmation Sacramental Preparation Programme.

The pupils enjoyed their guided tour of the Gothic Cathedral in the centre of Birmingham which was designed by renowned architect Pugin. As part of the tour the children found out about the history of the Cathedral, it's importance for our diocese, explored all around the interior of the Cathedral and had a visit to the crypt.

A highlight of the visit was our visit to St Edward's Chapel where we listened to our guide share the story of St Chad. We particularly enjoyed following the story through the images on the stained glass windows of how some of St Chad's bones were saved from destruction after King Henry VIII ordered his shrine in Lichfield to be dismantled.

After our guided tour, we joined in the celebration of Mass. Some of us had the opportunity to take part in the Offertory Procession and our Altar Servers had the honour of serving during Mass in the Cathedral.

Following our visit to St Chad's, we made our own stained glass windows depicting our Confirmation Saints.
