School Events - Black History Month

10 October 2010

As part of our Black History month celebrations, we attended an event at Heartlands Hospital at which our school choir had been asked to perform a range of music from African and Afro-Caribbean heritage.

The programme of events included key note speakers from the NHS Trust alongside a variety of multi-racial performers, including a jazz musician and an Afro-Arabic dancer.

The choir went down a storm, and the Head of the hospital's Equality and Diversity Division, Pamela Chandler, said the songs they sang reminded her of her childhood in the Caribbean.

In addition to the singing, a number of our children were presented with certificates and prizes from their entries in the 'Community' art competition. Indeed, pupils from St Thomas More took First, Second and Third prizes in both categories – drawing and collage.

Well done to all our winners!
