School Events - Archbishop Vincent Nichols Visits Us

4 May 2009

Archbishop Vincent Nichols launched the new Diocesan Prayer Bag initiative in our school on Tuesday 4th May 2009. We were fortunate that our school was chosen to host this launch by Fr Jonathan Veasey, Director of the Department of Religious Education.

Parents, governors, members of the Diocesan RE Team, our Parish Priest Fr Gilsenan and a representative group of children and staff waited excitedly in our School Hall for our Liturgy to begin.

Miss Hallahan, RE Subject Leader and Mr Tipping, Deputy Head Teacher led the welcome and this was followed by the lighting of our Paschal Candle.

Our Headteacher, Sister Susan, led us in prayer thanking God for the gift of our families. This was followed by a short drama, led by three Year 6 pupils who enacted the Walk to Emmaus.

The Gospel was proclaimed by pupils and staff and the entire celebration was made joyful though the singing of Easter hymns.

Archbishop Vincent shared his joy with us as he blessed the Prayer Bags and encouraged families to keep prayer at the heart of their lives.

Parents and children from Reception, Year 2, Year 4 and Year 6 received Prayer Bags from the Archbishop.

Our families now look forward to using the Prayer Bags at home.
