Future Projects

Here at Baskerville we rarely stand still! We often have new projects and initiatives, such as building developments or fund raisers. You can read about some of our future projects below.

Garage Conversion

The school continues to grow in student numbers and we are constantly looking at ways to increase the physical space of the buildings to meet the needs of the students.

In 2004/5 financial year the Governors approved an ambitious plan to build three new classrooms, a science preparation room, an office, and sensory room. They also approved the outline of a residential respite provision to be built above these school areas. Funding for the capital works was an issue so the decision was to complete the building in three phases as each became affordable.

In May 2005 the first phase was started to build a classroom, science preparation room, sensory room and an office. The building was completed but both the office and classroom were used as classrooms pending the completion of phase two of the extension.

In May 2007 phase two of the extension was started and was completed on 10th September 2007. The extension provided two new classrooms and new students toilet facilities. The completion of the extension has enabled the office space to be used for the Autism Support Team.

Recently the Education Authority has made funds available for us to convert the existing garages into a horticulture room and design technology room. This will release the existing horticulture room for use as a classroom. The building work will commence in January 2008 and is expected to be finished in May 2008. We will add photos as the work progresses.

The school has grown in student numbers from 28 in 2000 to over 70 for the 2007 academic year. Whilst the school needed to increase in numbers to become economically viable, the capacity of the buildings did not meet the needs of the students.

In May 2007 phase two of the extension was started and was due for completion by September 2007. The extension is to provide two new classrooms and new students toilet facilities. Due to inclement weather in June 2007 the completion of the extension was delayed but we were confident that it would be ready early in the start of the September term.
